Substation Schematic with marked survey Points
As part of an asset owner “Duty of care to their workers & contractors” Asset owners and or operations group are required to ensure the place of work is safe.
Instrument transformers & current transformers are critical components of the substations and are used to measure voltage and current in the system.
As these asset age, the risk of failure increases – lightening prone areas weaken the internal insulation, external contamination (ozone, water) are the main factors causing degradation on the surface of this equipment.
Partial discharge can develop either internally or superficially. In-service / on line testing is used to detect partial discharge on line before they reach critical levels without taking the equipment out of service or manipulating its operating conditions.
High Voltage Solution (HVS) undertake high level switch yard audits throughout Australia & New Zealand & provide failure analyses service on failed HV assets (CT / VT / Transformers / Tap Changers / Switchboards).
The audit process is undertaken by using three disciplines:
- Registered Electrical HV Inspector
- Specialised PD Engineer
- Infra-Red experienced operator
In summary we are able to detect & locate insulation de-grading in the following assets that put your personnel at risk.
GIS / Vacuum / bulk oil / SF6 circuit breakers | Post insulators | Voltage Transformers |
Power transformer | XLPE / Paper lead / oil & nitrogen filled cables | Current Transformers |
Tap Changers | Capacitor banks | Disconnectors |
Surge arrestors |
